When the duct is the problem, not the lint

Towels still damp after two hours. The laundry room feels hot and humid. You had the vent cleaned and nothing changed. Often the duct itself is the failure. Foil and vinyl flex crushes behind the dryer in shallow utility closets. Collapsed ribs catch lint on every ridge. Cleaning a crushed line buys a few weeks.

Scope follows the run. Slab ranch homes have a short side-wall run through brick or Hardie, four to ten feet. Those take rigid pipe and a hood that closes. Two-stories built from the 1990s onward often run twenty to forty feet through the attic, two to four elbows, ending at a roof jack. Sagging flex up there holds condensate. Damp lint then cements into mats right at the jack. Replacement means supported rigid metal and fewer elbows where the framing allows.

Vertical chase runs in three-story townhomes and mid-rise condos are a different job. Sometimes only the top and bottom are reachable. Garage-corner setups vent through a sidewall or straight up through the garage ceiling. Manufactured homes vent underfloor, out the skirting or rim.

Signs it is past cleaning: flex that will not hold its shape, pollen-bound lint packed in a screened wall hood, a varnish-like film from dryer sheet residue and humidity, bird or wasp nests in an uncapped hood.
